Engineering College Description and Special Characteristics
UMBC is located in the largest concentration of research institutions, national labs, and facilities on the East Coast, and is committed to providing hands-on, cutting-edge research opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students. UMBC is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as RU/H: Research Universities (high research activity). Students are offered exciting possibilities for research in collaboration with corporations and government agencies, and they work with outstanding research and teaching faculty on projects that engage in real-world challenges. In addition to engineering programs, the College of Engineering and Information Technology also includes undergraduate and graduate programs in Computer Science and Information Systems, and is one of the largest producers of undergraduate information technology graduates in the nation.
