Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

The viable applicant must possess, minimally, a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent from an accredited, a recognized ABET accredited college or university at the time of matriculation in the Engineering Graduate Program. The applicant?s previous academic record must indicate the ability and preparation necessary to pursue advanced studies.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

The viable applicant must possess, minimally, a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent from an accredited, a recognized ABET accredited college or university at the time of matriculation in the Engineering Graduate Program. The applicant?s previous academic record must indicate the ability and preparation necessary to pursue advanced studies.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Potential applicants from countries outside the United States must initially file with the Graduate School completed preliminary application forms before receiving application packets, and ordinarily may not be admitted to Unclassified status. Documentation required in support of international applicants is more extensive than that required of U.S. citizens; applicants who are citizens of countries outside the US must present evidence of English-language proficiency and, for visa eligibility certification of financial support for the full period of graduate study.

The applicant?s previous academic record must indicate the ability and preparation necessary to pursue advanced studies.

Residency Requirements

The Master's degree student must complete a minimum of 80% of the advanced work in residence. The PhD degree student must complete a minimum of 80% or, if matriculating as post-Master's student, at least 24 credit hours of post baccalaureate work in residence in preparation for and in anticipation of preliminary degree examinations.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

The viable applicant must possess, minimally, a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent from an accredited, a recognized ABET accredited college or university at the time of matriculation in the Engineering Graduate Program. The applicant's previous academic record must indicate the ability and preparation necessary to pursue advanced studies. Ordinarily, work complete elsewhere more than five years prior to beginning of the current degree program will not be approved for transfer into the current programs. For a course to qualify, generally, for transfer, the course must be applicable for inclusion in the advanced degree program and in the present major filed of the student at the accredited institution where it was taken; the grade received must have enn B or better. The applicant must petition the Dean for consideration of transfer credit and generally will not receive consideration until the student has completed a minim of six semester hours toward the degree in residence.
