Additive Manufacturing Lab

The Additive Manufacturing Lab at SDSU focuses on developing new 3d printing hardware, materials, and innovative solutions to complex problems using 3d printing technologies. Undergraduate students gain experience in manufacturing and testing samples, designing new equipment, developing new materials, using computer simulations to make design decisions, and publishing their research in peer reviewed journals for a broad audience. Students become involved in the lab through Honors thesis projects, independent studies and senior design projects. Recent students have presented their work at international conferences and IAM3D design competitions in Montreal, Boston, and New York City.

Advanced Biorefinery Laboratory

The Advanced Biorefinery Laboratory is developing the processes to produce "green" jet fuel, carbon-based electrodes of high performance batteries and other high-value products from corn stover, switchgrass and other agriculturally based renewable bio-materials.

Center for Advanced Photovoltaics

The center is focused primarily on the development of new photovoltaic devices including poly- and amorphous crystalline silicon, dye sublimated, and organic solar cells.

Engineering Extension

Engineering Extension provides consultation services for OSHA compliance.

Engineering Research

This office provides support and coordination for the research activities of the SDSU College of Engineering.

Fluids Laboratory

Undergraduate students are systematically measuring and studying the fluid velocity fields and associated sediment transport induced by different types of breaking waves using state-of-the-art 3D imaging technology. Undergraduate students can participate in research through a supplementary research grant (Research Experiences for undergraduates or REU) from the National Science Foundation (NSF). SDSU also has some funding for supporting undergraduates to conduct summer research with faculty.

Image Processing Lab

This laboratory specializes in the radiometric, geometric, and spatial calibration of satellite and airborne optical sensor systems.

Energy and cost reduction assistance for manufacturing and processing companies.

Materials Evaluation & Testing Lab

The Materials Evaluation and Testing Lab (METLAB) in the College of Engineering at SDSU focuses on analysis, research and development of materials and testing equipment and techniques to contribute substantially to the R&D activities at SDSU as well as in the State of South Dakota and the Upper Midwest Region. In this role, METLAB can make significant contributions to industrial growth, economic development and strengthen applied research capabilities in the state, region, and nation.

Microelectronics and Materials Laboratory

Fabricate and test new electronic sensor devices and materials.

Microgrid Laboratory

The microgrid Lab focuses on developing alternative power sources such as photovoltaics and wind, as well as power management, power electronics and energy-storage technologies for stand-alone "microgrid" power systems.

Mountain Plains Consortium

The Mountain " Plains Consortium (MPC) is a regional university transportation center located in Transportation Region 8. The consortium is comprised of five member universities: North Dakota State University, South Dakota State University, University of Wyoming, Colorado State University, and University of Utah. The MPC is co-funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation and requires full cost sharing match from non-federal sources. The MPC universities perform research, education, and outreach activities that address transportation-related issues.

SD Local Technical Assistance Program

SDLTAP enables local counties, parishes, townships, cities & towns to improve their roads & bridges by supplying them with a variety of training programs, an information clearinghouse, new & existing technology updates, personalized technical assistance & newsletters.
