Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

Each department has specific GPA requirements for designated course sequences. Minimum GPA for graduation is 2.0 overall for courses required for degree. ENGINEERING DEGREE--ABET accredited programs are Ag. & Biosystems Engr., Civil Engr., Computer Sci., Elec. Engr., Mathematics & Mech. Engr. Semester credits required for graduation are as follows: ABE-130, CE-130, EE-130, Math-120, ME-130, Computer Sci.-120. SDSU requires the completion of at least 32 cr. hrs. in residence. A minimum of 20 of those credits must be in junior & senior level taken immediately before the awarding of the degree.

Master's Degree Requirements

Master's with Thesis--GPA requirement: 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. Credit hours required for degree: 30. Thesis may be completed in absentia. A Master's with Design Paper requires 32 credit hours. Master's with courses only--GPA requirement: 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. Credit hours required for degree: 35.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

PhD in Computational Science and Statistics -- Credit Hours required: 60 past MS degree. Joint program with University of South Dakota. The primary focus will be the computational and statistcal modeling of biological processes. PhD in Geospatial Science & Engineering provides a multidisciplinary education that focuses on Geographic Information Sciences. It will require a minimum of 90 credits beyond the BS degree or 60 credits beyond the MS degree. Master's degree in appropriate science or engineering field required. Dissertation may be completed in absentia. The residence rquirement is 50 credits including 2 semesters on campus. PhD in Electrical Engineering -- Credit hours required: 60 past MS degree. The primary focus is Renewable Energy and Power Systems. Master's degree in appropriate engineering field required. The residence requirement is 50 credits including 2 semesters on campus. PhD in ABME - Credit hours required: 90 credits past a BS degree or 60 credits past MS degree. The primary focus is the study and application of biofuels, bio-processing, renewable energy, utilization of soil & water resources, and value-added manufacturing. The residence requirement is 50 credits including 2 semesters on campus.
