Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

To fulfill the requirements for a baccalaureate degree awarded by the College of Engineering, a student must do the following: (a) successfully complete all courses specified in one of the degree programs; (b) complete on this campus at least one-half of the work required within the engineering discipline of the degree (i.e., AE courses for a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, CE courses for a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, etc.); (c) earn at least a "C" average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) for all work attempted; (d) earn at least a "C" average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) for all work attempted on this campus; (e) earn at least a "C" average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) for all work attempted in his or her professional courses; (f) earn at least a "C" average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) for all work attempted in his or her professional courses on this campus; (g) present evidence that the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination has been taken; and (h) meet all additional academic requirements of the department offering the degree. Computer secience majors are exempt from item (g).

Master's Degree Requirements

Master of Science degrees require a minimum of 24 semester hours plus 6 hours of thesis research for the thesis option and 30 semester hours for the non-thesis option. The residency requirement is 18 semester hours except for those enrolled in the QUEST program. Students must earn a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. All requirements for the master's degree must be completed during the six calendar years immediately preceding the date on which the degree is to be awarded. Other appropriate requirements may be established by the individual departments.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Doctoral degrees require a minimum of 48 semester hours of coursework plus 24 hours of dissertation research for a total of 72 semester hours. Dissertation research which may be completed in absentia. Students must spend the 2nd or 3rd year in continuous on-campus residence and enroll in course work as a full-time student in the Graduate School. Students must earn a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Reading competence in at least one foreign language appropriate to research interests is required, or competence in at least one alternative research skill determined by the candidate's department or program and approved by the Graduate Council. Other appropriate requirements may be established by the individual departments.
