Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

To be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in any field of engineering, a student must:
1. complete the University and College requirements relating to writing and the UK Core.
2. complete a minimum of 128 hours, exclusive of those earned in freshman college algebra and freshman college trigonometry, with a cumulative standing of not less than 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.
3. be admitted to engineering standing in an engineering program for at least the final semester, and complete the requirements of that program.
4. complete a minimum of 24 credit hours of departmental courses at or above the 300 level.
Additional requirements exist for particular majors within the College of Engineering.

Master's Degree Requirements

Two-thirds of courses in major area. Half of course requirements in 600- or 700-level courses. Thesis: Minimum 24 credit hours. Thesis. Final exam. Non-Thesis: Minimum 30 credit hours. Final exam. Report(s) may be required in lieu of thesis.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Pre-qualifying Exam: Minimum 36 credit hours of coursework (some programs require more than 36 hours) must be completed prior to the qualifying examination (which consists of both oral and written components). Post-qualifying exam: must remain continuously enrolled in 767 " Dissertation Residency Credit (2 credit hours) until dissertation is completed and defended. Final Examination includes a defense of the dissertation and may be comprehensive in the major and minor areas. It is held before an expanded advisory committee. Some departments require a reading knowledge of a foreign language.
