All newly admitted UNLV students are required to participate in New Student Orientation (NSO) prior to the start of classes. NSO sessions are held throughout the summer for incoming students for the fall semester and during the winter break for incoming students for the spring semester. Students unable to attend a NSO session are required to attend a one-on-one academic advising session. NSO is designed to assist student transition into college by serving as an introduction to campus life, academic and personal resources and scheduling for the fall semester. The Engineering Advising Center is responsible for conducting the college’s portion of the NSO experience to ensure students are properly placed into degree-relevant curriculum for their first semester. The college also supports a variety of student organizations within the college. These organizations are meant to encourage student exploration into their discipline of choice, participate in inter-disciplinary projects, engage in and support under-represented minorities within STEM fields via student organizations as part of the university’s Multicultural Program.
