Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

The College of Engineering and Computing offers programs leading to the degrees of Master of Engineering, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy in the following disciplines: biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, civil and environmental engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and nuclear engineering. The college also offers programs leading to the Master of Engineering or Master of Science in the following disciplines: Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Management. The College also offers a program leading to the degree in Master of Software Engineering. Application requirements for admission to degree programs include a signed and dated application, official transcript showing the award of the baccalaureate or higher degree by an accredited college; two letters of recommendation, and report of scores achieved on the GRE. International applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit a satisfactory score on the TOEFL exam (see "Other College Admission Information"). Individual programs may have special application requirements in addition to those of the Graduate School.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

An international student is defined as a student who is not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. If an international student's academic credentials are not from a U.S. university, the student must submit a TOEFL score greater than the minimum set by the Graduate School (570 paper-based, 230 computer-based, 80 internet-based). Individual academic departments may have minimum requirements for undergraduate grade point average and GRE scores. Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

International students with academic credentials from a U.S. university may not need to submit TOEFL scores. All other application requirements should be submitted. Contact the Director of Graduate Studies in individual academic departments for more specific admission information.

Residency Requirements

Independent persons who physically reside in South Carolina for at least 12 months prior to admission, and can demonstrate evidence of their intent to stay, can become eligible for in-state tuition. See Graduate Bulletin for specific details of residency requirements.
