Entrance Requirements and Recommendations

Freshman applicants who satisfy the course requirements listed in the USC Undergraduate Bulletin will be evaluated on the basis of high-school grades, class rank, and entrance examination scores. These factors will be used to determine the applicant’s probability of completing the requirements for the desired degree. Seventy-five percent of admitted 2015 freshmen scored an 1130 or higher on the SAT (critical reading and math sections combined) or a 24 or higher on the ACT and also earned a GPA of at least 3.59 on a 4.0 scale.Students who complete the required 18 high school academic units with at least a “B” (3.00) average and earn scores as mentioned above are usually competitive for admission.

Qualified students at USC have the opportunity to participate in the University’s Honors College. A special application for admission into the South Carolina Honors College is required. Most students in the college enter as freshmen. Students who have already completed at least one semester " at USC or elsewhere " may apply as transfer students. Details are provided in the USC Undergraduate Bulletin. Those who wish to participate in the college should contact the Coordinator of High Ability Admissions in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
