Entrance Requirements and Recommendations

Requirements

Graduates of accredited high schools are required to have the following minimum credentials: a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), a composite ACT score of 21 or SAT composite of 980. In addition, all applicants need to have completed at least 13 high school units in a pre-college curriculum (one unit=one year).
Four units of English/communication/language arts, with 3 units containing a substantial writing component; this requirement may also be met by completing three units in English/communication/language arts, plus two. units of the same foreign language.
Three units of mathematics, which must include a college prep Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry sequence.
Three units of science; at least one unit must be from the physical sciences: physics, chemistry, or a college prep physical science course. The remaining two units may be from any combination of biological, life, physical, or earth/space science courses.
3 units of cultural context selected from the behavioral or social sciences, visual or performing arts, humanities, or foreign languages.
UW welcomes home-schooled students and students with GED credentials. Students may also be admitted with conditions or by exception. Contact the Office of Admissions for more information.

Summer Orientation is provided for new incoming freshmen and transfer students.
An Orientation to Engineering Study course is required of all new freshmen students.
Three Engineering Floors in one of the Residence Halls are available for engineering students.
A free tutoring service for engineering students is staffed daily, 8-5, within the engineering building.
A Minority Engineering Program is available.

Student Projects

Student Design Projects Description

All engineering majors complete a senior design project that is related to their field of study. Projects originate from a variety of sources including external clients, industry, faculty, and students. Many projects are funded by industrial clients.
Projects are presented at an annual Engineering Design Symposium held on campus.

Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

There are no additional admissions requirements over and above those for admission to the University of Wyoming. Engineering students who are uncertain of their major may elect to be admitted as "Engineering Undecided".

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

No additional requirements are necessary beyond those for the institution.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Applicants from countries where English is not the native language must score at least 525 on the TOEFL. Individual departments may require higher scores.

Residency Requirements

Wyoming residency is determined by the Residency Classification Committee, but generally requires that a permanent residence has been established and maintained for at least 12 months immediately preceding the term in question.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students
