Entrance Requirements and Recommendations

Requirements

To be considered for admission to the University of California (UC), all applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements. UC minimum requirements include:
• Complete a minimum of 15 college-preparatory courses (A-G courses), with at least 11 finished prior to the beginning of the senior year. (A. History/Social Science 2 yrs, B. English 4 yrs, C. Math 3 yrs, D. Lab Science 2 yrs, E. Foreign Language 2 yrs, F. College Preparatory Electives 2 yrs,)
• Earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better (3.4 if you're a nonresident) in these courses with no grade lower than a C.
• Meet the examination requirement by taking the ACT Plus Writing or the SAT Reasoning Test by December of the senior year.

Recommendations

It is recommended that applicants complete 3 years of Laboratory Science and 4 years of Mathematics. Applicants desiring admission as Freshmen to the Bourns College of Engineering should be ready to enroll in Calculus during their first fall term. Although SAT Subject exams are not required, it is recommended that applicants to the Bourns College of Engineering take the Math Level 2 and either Chemistry or Physics SAT Subject exams.

• In addition to meeting minimum admission requirements, UC Riverside employs a comprehensive review of all applications. On the Riverside campus this consists of the following factors:
o GPA
o SAT Reasoning or ACT plus writing scores
o Number of AP or IB courses taken
o First Generation status
o Low income status
