Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Each department in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology specifies its admission requirements beyond the College's general guidelines, which, in general, include an engineering or equivalent degree as offered at universities approved by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Graduates with bachelor degrees in mathematics, sciences and related areas may be accepted but may be required to take remedial undergraduate engineering courses. The GRE is required except in extenuating circumstances.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

The basic requirements for each department is a bachelor's degree within the departmental discipline. Students from other disciplines may be accepted but may be required to take undergraduate remedial course work.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

International applicants are required to take an English placement test when they arrive on campus to determine if they need additional English instruction in the Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE). OPIE students may have to delay registering for regular courses until English skills have improved to ensure success in the classroom.

Same as resident students.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

A maximum of 8 (semester) credit hours may be transferred from an accredited university to a Master’s degree program of 30 hours at Ohio University. For Master’s degree programs longer than 30 hours, no more than 25 percent of the total graded coursework requirements may be transferred to the degree program. There is no set limit to the number of credit hours which may be transferred for doctoral degrees.
