Other Student Support Programs

1. Orientation - all first year students are required to attend a one and one-half day summer orientation to meet with their academic advisers, receive information about the College of Engineering and University services and to plan for their first semester. A similar orientation program is conducted for transfer students during the summer and during the academic year.
2. A Counseling Center is operated to assist individuals in gaining a better understanding of themselves. Assistance is offered to students with concerns such as choosing a career, academic planning, identifying and overcoming educational difficulties, and coping with stress. Workshops and support groups are offered throughout the year.
3. Summer Transition Program (STP), a summer bridge program enrolls approx. 70 minority students during the second summer session.
4. Women In Engineering ESCAPE Camp, a week long, residential summer bridge program providing strategies & tips on success in mathematics, building on computer skills, and helping build an identity with the College of Engineering and NC State.
5. Undergraduate Studies Tutorial Center provides academic assistance in lower division mathematics, science, and language classes. Other WIE programs include mentoring, the SWE Chapter and other professional development, outreach and engagement activities designed for women.
6. Women In Science and Engineering is a living and learning community on campus. The program provides mentoring, academic support and other services for freshmen and sophomore engineering women each year.
7. Engineering Village is a living and learning community on campus. The program provides mentoring, academic support and other services for first-year engineering students.
