Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Formal application must be made through the Graduate Enrollment Services Office with acceptance by the department. The Graduate Enrollment Services Office will notify applicant of decision. Entry requirements include completion of a baccalaureate degree and evidence of applicant's potential to successfully complete graduate studies. Evaluation of transfer credit is made by the department. Applicants who do not fully satisfy all admission criteria as to grades, test scores, or their credentials, but do show sufficient promise to qualify for a trial period of graduate study may be admitted to the university on probation.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Entrance requirements are the same as for American students except TOEFL is required to demonstrate English language proficiency. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper test) or 213 (computer version) is required for admission to graduate study.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Same requirements as resident students.

Residency Requirements

At least 30 semester credit hours must be earned in graduate level courses completed through RIT. (This does not require residence in campus housing.)

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

A request for transfer credit must be made at the time of application for graduate student status. Only a course with a grade of B (3.0) or better may be transferred.
