College Description

Engineering College Description and Special Characteristics

For more than 100 years, the College of Engineering has been providing exceptional learning and research opportunities for students from Idaho and around the world. We have one of the leading engineering programs in the Northwest. A large number of firms and agencies from throughout the country send interviewers to the University of Idaho campus each year seeking to hire UIdaho engineering students. We have world class research facilities and professors who are working on a wide range of cutting edge research. The College of Engineering is the home of a NIATT (National Institute for Applied Transportation Technology) Center, funded by the Federal Department of Transportation, Idaho Space Grant Consortium and the Center for Secure and Dependable Systems. The size of the college is near the median of engineering colleges in the country. It is not so large that the importance of the student as an individual is lost but is large enough to support the faculty and facilities needed for top-quality education. The University of Idaho has established a reputation for excellent scores on the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination, on which students often produce a pass rate of 100 percent. In 2013, the National Academy of Engineering recognized the UI College of Engineering senior capstone design program as one of the best in the nation, highlighting it as one of seven top capstones alongside Harvey Mudd College and Michigan Technical University in it's report, "Infusing Real-World Experiences into Engineering Education."
