Student Design Projects Description

All graduating engineering seniors are required to complete a capstone project. The projects are team based, and require oral, written and graphic presentations of the project. Projects are supported by local engineering industries/companies. Senior projects are in the area of design, manufacturing, analysis, instrumentation, microprocessor systems.

Graduating majors are required to complete an individual Master's Thesis presentation.

College Description

Engineering College Description and Special Characteristics

The University of Hartford offers students the advantages of an engineering, technology, and architecture college within a larger university atmosphere. Our small classes, faculty who value teaching and student contact, and faculty and student research give our students an academic advantage. The resources of the university, such as honors sections, a career center, university computer systems, diverse student body and extensive science and engineering laboratories further enrich our student's opportunities. The facilities are now part of the Integrated Science, Engineering, and Technology (ISET) Complex, combine engineering, technology, and sciences. The electrical, mechanical, civil, biomedical and computer engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The architectural, electronic and mechanical engineering technology programs are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

The graduate engineering program includes independent study requirements, which offer the opportunity to pursue design projects or self-directed study. The graduate architecture program is NAAB accredited which prepares students for professional licensure.

The following text was offered to each school as a guideline for the calculation of externally-funded research expenditures:

Include all expenditures associated with grants and contracts specifically budgeted for externally sponsored research and associated programs and expenditures associated with all gifts auditably used for research. Include expended funds provided by the following external sources:

  1. Federal Government
  2. State Government
  3. Foreign Governments
  4. Industry
  5. Non-Profit Organizations (e.g. foundations)
  6. Individuals
  7. Local Government

The expenditures reported should be only those funds provided by organizations, agencies, and individuals external to the institution. Cost sharing/matching funds should be included only if provided from sources external to the institution.

Only State government funds that were obtained competitively or as matching funds associated with other externally funded programs should be included. State funds that are part of the normal operating budget should not be included regardless of purpose.

For all joint or contracted projects or sub-projects, only the portion of the center research performed by faculty, staff, and students of the affiliated engineering school should be credited to that school. Expenditures for capital costs of research laboratory building construction should not be included.

Expenditures for research laboratory renovations should not be included unless the renovation funds expended came from grants and contracts expressly intended for the direct support of engineering research.

Any portion of academic year and/or summer salary for any researcher that is not derived from external research grants or contracts should not be counted.

College Description

Engineering Technology College Description and Special Characteristics

The College offers four-year Architectural, Audio, Computer, Computer & Electronic, Electromechanical, and Electronic Engineering Technology programs which are laboratory and studio intensive. Co-op is offered starting in the sophomore year. The College places particular emphasis on seeking out students with academic promise who face cultural, economic, or personal barriers and assisting them in reaching their potential. The College also offers two-year programs in Computer Engineering Technology and Electronic Engineering Technology.

The College's four-year programs leading to either a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering Technology, Audio Engineering Technology, Computer & Electronic Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology, and Electronic Engineering Technology stress the application of theoretical concepts in a laboratory or studio environment. Programs are structured to provide a proper foundation in mathematics and the basic sciences, while ensuring extensive hands-on laboratory/studio instruction. There is also a strong component of general education with particular emphasis upon communication skills. The Architectural Engineering Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs are accredited by TAC-ABET.
