Bachelor's Degree Requirements

Bachelor's programs in engineering require 123-126 semester credits, depending on major selected. Each student must satisfy the following University requirements for graduation, in addition to the academic requirements of the particular curriculum chosen:
a. A scholastic average of C (grade point average or GPA of 2.0) in all work taken at the University. Additionally, Engineering students must have at least a 2.0 average in all engineering, mathematics, and science courses used to fulfill graduation requirements.
b. The completion of either 90 of the first 100 semester credits or 30 of the last 36 semester credits, full- or part-time, at the University of Delaware.
c. One incoming semester of First Year Experience (FYE) completed with a passing letter grade, or a grade of P for courses graded only Pass/Fail. The number of semester credits will depend on the designated FYE.
d. One semester of Freshman English (ENGL 110) completed with a minimum grade of C-.
e. Three semester credits of Discovery Learning Experience (DLE) completed with a passing letter grade, or a grade of P for courses graded only Pass/Fail.
f. Three semester credits in an approved course or courses stressing multi-cultural, ethnic, and/or gender related content. This course may not be taken on a pass/fail basis.
In addition, the College of Engineering requires that six courses (minimum of 18 semester credits) be chosen from the humanities and social sciences subject to the constraints of the university and college breadth requirement program and the approval of the student's advisor.

Master's Degree Requirements

The minimum number of credits required for the master's degree with thesis is 24 semester hours plus 6 semester credits of thesis. The minimum number of credits for the master's degree without a thesis is 30 semester credits. The student in a non-thesis program may be required to pass a comprehensive examination or some other culminating requirement. There is not a foreign language requirement for the master's degree. A maximum of 9 graduate semester credits may be transferred from non-degree status or from another institution to the degree. Candidates for the degree must have regular status. Students must have a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for the degree. In addition, the grades in core courses specifically required for the degree program must average at least 3.0. Part-time non-degree graduate students can take courses through the Professional Engineering Outreach Program, and these courses may be applied to a traditional or non-thesis graduate engineering degree upon regular admission to the graduate program.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Entrance requirements are established by the departments. To be considered for admission, applicants must meet the admission requirements stipulated in the Graduate Program Policy Statement of the academic unit to which the student is applying. Admission to graduate programs at the University of Delaware is selective and competitive based on the number of well-qualified applicants and the limits of available faculty and facilities. Applicants are encouraged to contact the academic department for specific admission requirements. Students who have been admitted to a master's program and who receive their master's degree at the University of Delaware are not necessarily eligible for a doctoral program.
