Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

The departments in the Whiting School of Engineering independently determine all entrance requirements, grade point minimum and deadline for admission. For applications, students should visit Admission decisions are by departmental faculty committees.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Students must apply online. Applicants are responsible for having official transcripts of college and university study. Applicants are advised to submit recent Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. Most departments require two letters of recommendation, some require three. Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

International students whose native language is not English must take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) assessment. For the TOEFL, Hopkins requires a minimum score of 600 on the paper test; 250 on the computer-based or 100 on the internet-based test. For the IELTS, Hopkins requires an Academic Band Score of at least 7.

Residency Requirements

Two consecutive semesters of full-time residency/enrollment is required for all graduate students.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Transfer application deadlines are set by individual departments. Transfer students apply like other new students, through the Office of Graduate Admissions.
