Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

The student must complete the department curriculum as required, credit hour requirements as appropriate (a minimum of 126 hours), IIT Core Curriculum requirements, must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00 and a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in the students major department courses, and must have submitted payment of all financial obligations to the University. The completion of all the above must be done within a period of eight calendar years from the semester of initial admission for full-time students or 12 calendar years for part-time students after achieving degree status.

Master's Degree Requirements

A Professional Master's degree in an engineering field requires a minimum of 30 credit hours (32 credit hours in some disciplines) with at least a B average. A Master of Science degree requires a minimum of 32 credit hours with at least a B average, completion of a thesis counting for six to eight hours required in all but two disciplines (in electrical engineering and in computer engineering, with thesis optional in both of these), not necessarily an original contribution. Successful completion of a comprehensive examination if required by program. The completion of the above must be done within six calendar years immediately preceding the student's graduation.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Minimum of 84 credit hours past the BS degree required. At least a B average. Original contribution thesis counting for between 24 and 48 credit hours, representing the equivalent of at least one year of full-time work devoted to research (24 credit hours). Successful completion of a qualifying examination, comprehensive examination, and final thesis examination. Degree requirements must be completed within six years after filing a program of study.
