Other Student Support Programs

Some engineering departments offer an Orientation to Engineering course for all first year students. The university has active student organizations and strong involvement with technical societies. The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology offers various athletic, Greek, religious, special interest, student government, and student media organizations.
A program designed to help freshman succeed called FIRST, Freshman Introduction to Real Success at Tech, will help students develop connections with each other and the university during the student's first year on campus. Participants will be able to take advantage of in-hall tutoring and coordinated class and study groups.
