Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Bachelor's degree in engineering or science from an accredited four-year college or university. Three letters of recommendation submitted by three persons familiar with the scholastic ability and interests of the applicant. Applicants from SDSM&T need only two names of faculty members familiar with the applicant's academic performance.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Must provide evidence of English proficiency. English proficiency for graduate applicants from countries in which english is not the native language must be verified by the TOEFL(Test of English as a Foreign Language). A minimum score of 560 is required for unconditional satisfaction of the requirement. Scores greater than 520 and below 560 will undergo an evaluation and may be required to complete a program of study in English as a second language. Admittance will not be granted to students with TOEFL scores below 520.
U.S. Department of Justice form I-20 will not be issued until admission to graduate school has been granted and the applicant has provided documentary evidence that they are financially able to cover the costs of education at this college.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Entrance requirements for U.S. residents, with other than SD residency are the same as for SD residents.

Residency Requirements

Same as for Undergraduates students.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Minimum percentage of credit hours in the graduate degree program that must be completed from the institution granting the degree: 60%.
Graduate transfer courses and transfer grades, are recorded and evaluated by SDSM&T, calculated into grade point averages according to the SD Regental grade scheme, and recorded on the student's academic transcript ONLY if these transfer courses are equivalent to a specific graduate course at SDSM&T.
