The philosophy of the Student Support Services Program centers around students with the potential to do well and excel academically. Therefore, the role of the Student Support Services Program is to serve as a source of support to facilitate students' successful completion of Mercer's academic requirements. The mission of the Student Support Services Program is to provide supportive services to students by: increasing their retention and graduation rates; fostering an institutional climate supportive of their success; and increasing the rate of their entrance into graduate and professional programs. Student Support Services offers numerous services which include: personal counseling and mentoring, tutorial services, and exposure to cultural programs and activities. Furthermore, there are activities designed to assist students in gaining admission to graduate and professional schools; financial aid counseling for continued college attendance; activities to assist students with disabilities to confront barriers to their performance at Mercer; priority course selection and registration for students with disabilities; and counseling provided to ensure availability of financial aid necessary for continued college attendance. Additionally, Student Development and Career Services provide a multitude of services to students in order to enhance their personal, career, and academic lives. Encouragement is established by creating intellectual, cultural, emotional, social, and spiritual growth opportunities through counseling and learning experiences in collaboration with the greater university community. Personal counseling, personality and learning style assessment, national testing program, and referrals are part of the services offered.
