Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Students apply through the UMaine Graduate School for admission to engineering programs. A non-refundable application fee of $65 must accompany an application. Minimum GPA 3.0 out of 4.0 is required and students need to have official transcripts from all institutions attended sent to the Graduate School.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Each engineering department reviews all applications for its programs. All engineering programs require the GRE Aptitude tests and applicants must check with the appropriate department to determine if a GRE Subject Test is also required. An undergraduate degree in engineering is preferred, although some programs admit students with a non-engineering degree, if background deficiencies are addressed.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

In addition to the above criteria, international students must also demonstrate English proficiency by passing the with a score of 550 or above or 213 or higher on the CBT. Proof of financial support is necessary and health insurance is required.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Same as resident students.

Residency Requirements

A minimum of 50% of courses must be completed in residence.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Requirements are the same as for new students. Students can transfer 6 to 12 credits depending upon program, but no credit is given for courses with less than a "B" (3.0).
