Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Admission coincides with admission to the institution. School changes allow students to enter Engineering after matriculating in another school/college within the University. Students may select a major upon application, University admission is not based on major selection. Students may change majors at any time prior to graduation. Application deadlines: for Freshmen, January 15 for the fall semester, October 1 for the spring semester; for Transfers, April 1 for the fall semester, October 1 for the spring semester; for International applicants, February 1 for the fall semester and October 1 for the spring semester. There is a $70 application fee. Typically, admitted students rank in the top 20% of their high school class and have combined critical reading and math SAT scores of 1200 minimum.

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Students may be admitted to a major upon initial admission to the University. Students may request a major change within the School of Engineering two times per year; January and June. Student should request a major change prior to the fourth semester.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

The University of Connecticut provides educational opportunities of the highest quality to all students. It makes a contribution to international education by encouraging the enrollment of students from all parts of the world. It selects, however, only those applicants who are academically, linguistically, and financially prepared for University work in this country.
International students requesting admission information receive an application and detailed instructions about required supporting materials. Requirements are: official academic transcripts, personal essay, financial affidavit, TOEFL with minimum 550 on the paper test, 213 on the electronic test or 81 on the IBT, and SAT or ACT scores. Prospective international students should begin the application procedures one year before intended matriculation. International students who are interested in transferring from another institution can only apply for the fall semester. Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Same requirements as a resident student.

Residency Requirements

A minimum of thirty (30) credits must be completed at the University.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Internal transfer student applicants to the School should have at least a 2.7/4.0 GPA. When transfering from another institution admission to the School of Engineering normally requires a GPA of 3.0 or above. As a member of College of Technology Pathway Program, all students completing their associate's degree in Engineering Science, at one of the twelve Connecticut Community-Technical Colleges with at least a 3.0 are guaranteed admission to the School of Engineering.
