Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

For graduation with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree, a student must complete successfully a minimum of 34 semester courses. They must include Writing, Math, Natural Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering and Applied Sciences, Digital Computation & Engineering departmental requirements.

Master's Degree Requirements

Thirty credit hours are required for a master's degree. Thesis may be completed in absentia. 30 units required with 12 in the major; 6 in related work; 6 in either major or minor subject; and 6 for a research-based thesis. Each of the departments impose additional requirements for Master's with courses only.

Master of Engineering Management: Eight courses are required for this degree, with the core of the program consisting of four engineering management courses developed in conjunction with the Duke School of Law and the Fuqua School of Business. A required internship provides students with experience in industry while four graduate level engineering courses serve to extend each student's technical background.

Master of Engineering: Ten courses are required for this degree, with the core of the program consisting of two business courses developed in conjunction with the Fuqua School of Business. A required internship provides students with experience in industry while eight graduate level engineering courses serve to extend each student's technical background.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Sixty credit hours are required for degree. Dissertation may be completed in absentia. Master's degree not required. Doctoral students are required to pass qualifying and preliminary exams either written, oral or a combination at the department's discretion.
