Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Entering students must have a degree in engineering from an accredited (ABET/EAC) program or an approved equivalent degree.

To be eligible for regular admission at the master's level an applicant must: (a) Provide official documentation of an undergraduate grade-point average of not less than 2.75/4.0 on all work attempted or not less than 3.0/4.0 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework (b) Present satisfactory scores on the General Test (all portions) of the GRE. To be eligible for regular admission to a doctoral program, an applicant must: (a) Provide official documentation of an undergraduate grade-point average of 3.0/4.0 or a minimum grade-point average of 3.3/4.0 on all graduate work attempted (b) Present satisfactory scores on the General Test (all portions) of the GRE.

Applicants whose native language is not English and who hold degrees only from institutions outside the United States must submit acceptable TOEFL scores. Scores below 550 are not considered satisfactory.

Applicants who do not meet criteria for regular admission may be considered for conditional admission. Departments use the following criteria: (a) applicant's GPA in the major field (b) the number of sucessfully completed hours in the applicant's major field (c) the strength and appropriateness of the applicant's undergraduate curriculum (d) letters of reference (e) an outstanding score on the subject portion of the GRE (f) publication and professional or other experience relevant to the field. All international students coming from abroad are admitted in conditional status.

Residency Requirements

A master's student must successfully complete a minimum of 21 hours of degree-program credit on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

A doctoral student shall complete two semesters of full time consecutive graduate study, not including summer sessions.
