Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

All B. S. E. programs require the satisfactory completion of 128 credit hours. Students must also accumulate a final grade point average of 2.00 or higher, earn a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or higher in all courses taken within the student's academic department. Students must complete at least 50 credit hours of course work offered by the University of Michigan Ann Arbor campus (excludes prescribed programs), complete at least 30 of the last 36 credit hours of work while enrolled in the College of Engineering, Ann Arbor campus, and complete a minimum of 30 credit hours of advanced level courses, as required by the degree program while enrolled in the College of Engineering, Ann Arbor campus.

Master's Degree Requirements

M. S. E., M. S. and M. Eng. programs require the completion of the requirements for a B. S. E., or B. S., or its equivalent. Most programs require the completion of 30 credit hours of graduate course work. Thesis, non-thesis, project, and research options are available depending on the program. Some combined programs are also offered in conjunction with other schools or colleges. These programs have additional course credit hour and other special requirements.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Ph. D. programs require the completion of at least 30 credit hours of graduate course work. Successful completion of qualifying examinations are also required. In absentia completion of the dissertation is subject to approval by the program faculty.
