Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Admission to one of the M.S. programs in the College of Engineering requires that the student meet the admission standards set by the Graduate School and have a bachelor's degree in engineering or its equivalent. The applicant to a M.S. program must have earned a GPA of 2.70/4.0 or better on approximately the last 60 semester hours of undergraduate coursework. Admission to a doctoral program requires a master's degree or its equivalent and requires a GPA in graduate work of at least 3.25/4.0. Applicants are required to submit GRE scores in support of their application for admission.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Admission to an engineering department is the same as that for admission to the College of Engineering.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

If a foreign-born applicant has completed a four-year bachelor's degree program at an accredited institution in the U.S., the applicant may be given the same consideration for admission to a graduate degree program as a U.S. citizen. All applicants whose native or first language is not English must have a TOEFL score of at least 550 for entry into master's programs and the Ph.D. program. An academic record equivalent to a 2.70/4.0 grade point average is requied for M.S. programs. Admission to Ph.D. program requires a master's degree or its equivalent and a grade point average in graduate work of at least 3.25/4.00.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Entrance requirements for non-resident students are the same as those for resident students.

Residency Requirements

For the Master's degree, at least one-half of the required number of hours must be earned at SIUC. For the Doctoral degree, the residency requirement is satisfied by completion of 24 semester hours of graduate credit at SIUC as a doctoral student within a time period not to exceed four calendar years.
