Mission
The mission of the School of Computing and Engineering is to provide nationally competitive educational opportunities and focused research in Computing and Engineering to the students of the Midwest region generating the technical work force and research results needed to drive the economic development of the region including entrepreneurial activities.

History
The University has been offering engineering degree coursework since 1956. Increased technology demands during the mid-80s combined with a generous gift from Sprint, lead to the development of UMKC's high-tech computer science and telecommunications program. Today, the School of Computing and Engineering offers undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. degrees in the fields of information technology, computer science, civil, electrical and computer, and mechanical engineering.

UMKC's central location to downtown, the Country Club Plaza and surrounding suburbs, provides students with connections to both internships and co-op experiences, along with part-time and full time employment opportunities. The School of Computing and Engineering's Corporate Executive Council keeps the school up to date on current industry trends and skills needed by employers.
