Engineering College Description and Special Characteristics

Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology at Saint Louis University offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in eight areas of engineering: Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mechanical Engineering and Interdisciplinary Engineering. Global challenges such as clean water, sustainable energy and engineering expertise with medical needs for the enhancement of health care have emerged as opportunities for the engineering graduates of Saint Louis University to make a difference, to apply their education in a context that is technically brilliant, socially responsible, and uniquely enterprising, and to ultimately make our world a better, more inclusive place. The curricula emphasize team work, sound fundamental principles in mathematics and sciences followed by discipline specific course work including many laboratory courses. The required course work is complemented by various activities in professional organizations on campus such as Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), Society of Women Engineers (SWE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Society of Physics students. In addition, students have the opportunity to get involved in service opportunities such as the campus kitchen and habitat for humanity. All engineering programs have a capstone experience in their senior year that emphasizes team work, interdisciplinary projects and effective written and communication skills. The college provides excellent opportunities for students in summer internships and cooperative education programs in industries and research centers. Opportunities also exist for undergraduate students to pursue research work with a faculty member.
