Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

REQUIREMENTS for the B.S.in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering :
1. Completion of the 27-unit General Education requirement
2. Completion of the 69-unit engineering core ( 66-units for computer engineering)
3. Completion of an approved 30-unit senior program
4. Completion of the Upper Division Writing Requirement.

REQUIREMENTS FOR B.S IN COMPUTER SCIENCE:
1. Completion of the 30-unit General Education requirement
2. Completion of the 71-unit computer science core.
3. Completion of 15 units of senior electives.
4. Completion of the Upper Division Writing Requirement.
5. 4-6 units of general electives.

Master's Degree Requirements

MASTER'S OF SCIENCE IN ENGINEERING DISCIPLINES:

A. Thesis Plan:
a) 24 units of course work applicable to the M.S. degree, of which at least 15 must be Engineering courses at the 500-level or above.
b) 6 units of Thesis, and successful defense of Thesis.

B. Project Plan:
a) 27 units of course work applicable to the M.S. degree, of which at least 18 units must be Engineering courses at the 500-level or above.
b) 3 units of Graduate Project, culminating in a comprehensive report.

C. Comprehensive Exam Plan:
a) 30 units or course work applicable to the M.S. degree, of which at least 21 units must be Engineering courses at the 500-level or above.
b) 3 units of Directed Comprehensive Studies in preparation for a comprehensive exam.

The Comprehensive Exam plan may not be available in certain programs, at the discretion of the department.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

For the degree:

1. Student will select 9 units of coursework from three of the four following areas of study: ( Algorithms, Systems, Software Engineering, Foundations). 2. Project/Thesis ( 6 units): 3. Courses ( 15 units) at the 400, 500 and/or 600 level in a single area of specialization approved by the Graduate Coordinator, Department Chair, and Project/Thesis Committee Chair (3 units must be at the 500 level or above)

No course taken more than seven years prior to the date on which all requirements for the degree are completed may be counted as part of the 30 units in the degree program.
