The Offices of Advising, the Career Center and Engineering Learning Initiatives provide a comprehensive approach to enriching the academic experience and promoting the academic achievement of undergraduate students. The offices promote academic excellence, diversity, collaborative learning, and the advancement of an integrated community with core values and ethics that support the development of engineers with a social conscience. A variety of programs and services are offered to help orient, network, update, support, and celebrate students. Ethnic, cultural, gender, and learning differences are supported to ensure the academic and personal success of all students. Students selected on a variety of criteria can participate in a six-week residential Pre-freshman Summer Program, which offers both regular and accelerated classes, seminars, field trips, and recreational activities. All students participate in a variety of orientation activities and all freshmen participate in an Engineering 1050 Seminar: a one-credit seminar taught by faculty advisors during the fall semester to provide first-year students with an introduction to engineering and university resources. Skills workshops, distinguished speaker series, undergraduate research, leadership opportunities, and peer facilitation opportunities all enhance the academic program and life at Cornell.

The Diversity Programs in Engineering office operates programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and faculty levels to facilitate the outreach, recruitment, retention, and overall success of all members of the College of Engineering community, but especially those from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in Engineering including, but not limited to women, underrepresented minorities, and first generation college students. The Diversity office also supports many fellowship programs and opportunities for development for our students including (but not limited to), the Cornell Sloan & Cornell Colman Fellowships, the GEM Fellowship program, summer success symposiums and mentorship opportunities.

The Engineering Leadership Program provides opportunities for students to develop the enabling skills of leadership to accelerate their ability to become effective leaders and to understand the positive impact of great leadership.

The College also enrich works to the environment of engineering graduate students. The College supports the Engineering Graduate Student Association with new graduate student orientation and other academic and recreational activities. We work closely with the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, Directors of Graduate Studies, Graduate Field Assistants and the Graduate School to provide support for engineering graduate students on a variety of topics, for example ranging from assistance with applications for prestigious fellowships to administering the College financial aid awards.
