Other Student Support Programs

The College of Technology has a commitment to providing academic support for the retention and graduation of students in our college. Support begins for students during New Student Orientation. All new freshman students are required to attend a two-day orientation. On the second day of orientation students visit with their academic advisors for an introduction to academic policies, procedures, and support services, as well as have the opportunity to enroll in courses for the upcoming semester. Once students have matriculated the college and the university offers a multitude of academic support. Students are expected to visit with their academic advisor once a semester to ensure persistence and timely graduation. Students are referred to campus resources such as the Office of Students with Disabilities, Learning Support Services, Center for Academic Support and Assessment (CASA), and the Writing Center for tutoring and academic accommodations. The College of Technology Student Success Program (COT-SSP), is a new student success initiative designed to impact the persistence of first time in college (FTIC) students. The program is currently voluntary for students and introduced during new student orientation. The COT-SSP offers new students increased interaction with advisors and faculty, as well as access to specially designed workshops to impact the academic success of this cohort.

The College of Technology Advising website is the main source of information about student advising, financial aid, and scholarships. The website is:

Student Design Projects Description

The Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program has a senior design capstone experience. The MET Senior Design capstone experience is a sequence of two courses taken in the student’s senior year. Both courses are time-intensive, and the students spend 4 hours in class (each course is 2 credits). Students are expected to obtain financial support from industry. In general (based on the type of systems chosen) in the first course, MECT 4275 " Senior Design Project , students, working in teams, design, model, test (computationally and through prototypes) and validate their process. The teams are expected to complete their design process from research through conceptualization to generation of final design and accompanying documents taking in consideration cost as well as fabrication issues. In the second course of the sequence, MECT 4276 " Senior Design II, teams realize their final design. Students concentrate on refining a path forward for construction and fabrication work, experimenting and testing models considering alternatives. Teams also analyze the results of their design, summarize lessons learned and preparing and submitting design documents including a project report.

Engineering Technology Information

College Description

Engineering Technology College Description and Special Characteristics

Engineering Technology (ET) is the profession in which knowledge of the applied mathematical and natural sciences gained by higher education, experience, and practice is devoted to the application of engineering principles and the implementation of technological advances for the benefit of humanity. Engineering Technology education for the professional focuses primarily on analyzing, applying, implementing and improving existing and emerging technologies and is aimed at preparing graduates for the practice of engineering that is close to the product improvement, manufacturing, and engineering operational functions.

The department offers four Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees, Master of Science (M.S.) degrees, and several minors associated with fields of study within the department. Bachelor of Science degrees are offered in Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical Power Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. These programs have been accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (formerly the Technology Accreditation Commission) of ABET. A Bachelor of Science degree is also offered in Biotechnology.

The Engineering Technology Department offers a Master of Science degrees with concentrations in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Network Communications, Biotechnology, and Computational Health Informatics. The curricula of these majors are designed to give students a strong understanding of the principles of the fields of study and a one-of-a-kind experiential learning opportunity in modern laboratory facilities.

Programs in Construction Management (BS and MS) and Computer Information Systems are offered through the Department Construction Management and Department of Information and Logistics Technology, respectively.
