Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Admission to the Engineering College: Entrance Requirements: SAT or ACT, High School courses -- English (4 years), Mathematics (4 years), Physics (1 year), Chemistry (1 year).Generally require a 3.0 (B) average in HS calculus, physics and some departments, chemistry.
Entrance Recommendations: High School courses -- Computers (1 year), Social Studies (3 years), Foreign Language (2 years), Other Science (1 year).
Some departments may have greater requirements.

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Admission is competitive and on a space-available basis. Admission to an Engineering Department: Each department has a specific set of criteria for direct admission. Students not admitted to the college at the time they enter the university may apply after completing at least one semester of physics and calculus and/or major related courses.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

TOEFL iBT score of 80 or higher

Residency Requirements

Beginning with the 57th credit, at least 36 credits must be earned at Stony Brook. At least seven engineering core courses and/or approved technical elective courses offered by the College must be completed at Stony Brook, at least five of which must be offered by the department of the student's major.
