Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

1)An official Graduate College application for admission is required. 2)Official transcripts for all college-level courses. 3)A written statement of personal goals and professional objectives to be obtained from the program. 4)Three letters of recommendation describing abilities, interest and motivation of the applicant. 5)All international students must also submit: A TOEFL score of 550 or greater. A financial statement of available funds as currently required by OSU.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Graduate students entering the Engineering College are admitted directly to an individual department. If an undergraduate degree is not in the discipline of that department, the department may require prerequisites be completed prior to beginning graduate work.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Entrance requirements for foreign students is the same for US students. Graduate students entering the Engineering College are admitted directly to an individual department. If an undergrduate degree is not in the discipline of that department, the department may require that prerequisites be completed prior to beginning graduate work.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Entrance requirements for Non-Resident students are the same for all non-residents of Oklahoma. They must be formally admitted to the graduate college and meet all requirements for admissions to the University.

Residency Requirements

Candidates for a master's degree must complete a minimum of 21 semester credit hours in residence if they follow Plan I, or 23 semester credit hours if they follow Plan II or III.
Nine semester credit hours of the 30 or 32 hours required for the degree may be completed: 1) by residence courses taken at an accredited college or university, 2) by extension or in-service courses from Oklahoma State University or from another accredited institution, or 3) by a combination of these methods. The last eight semester credit hours for the degree must be taken on the Stillwater campus unless a written request by the student to take the work at another location is approved by the head of the major department and the Dean of the Graduate College

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Graduate students must be formally admitted to the graduate college at another accredited insitution and the course(s) certified as graduate credit by that insitution to receive credit for transfer work. The work must be recommended by the advisor as a part of an approved plan of study. A maximum of nine credit hours with a grade of "B" or better in each course can be accepted as transfer credits toward a master's degree. Doctoral students must complete at least 30 hours of their program at OSU. However, no more than nine hours may be transferred from institutions that do not grant doctoral degrees
