Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

Completion of the minimum number of 120 units required by the major program. Completion of at least 40 upper-division units (courses numbered 300-499). Completion of at least 30 units in residence at CSULB of which at least 24 must be upper-division and at least 12 must be in the major. Completion of the General Education program, including at least 9 units in upper-division courses completed at CSULB. Satisfactory fulfillment of the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR). Completion of the following with a grade point average of at least 2.0 (a) all units applicable toward a degree, including those accepted by transfer from another institution, (b) all units in the major, and (c) all units attempted at the campus granting the degree. Master's Degree Requirements

Completion of a minimum of 30 semester units beyond the bachelor's degree, passing a comprehensive examination or submitting an acceptable thesis or project along with a GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.00) or better.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Completion of a minimum of 48 semester units of course work, independent study, and research. Successful completion of preliminary and qualifying examinations. Completion of an acceptable dissertation along with a GPA of 3.0 (out of 4.00) or better.
