Entrance Requirements and Recommendations


First-Year Undergraduate Admission Requirements: Subject Requirements: history/social science - 2 years; English - 4 years; mathematics - 3 years; laboratory science - 2 years; foreign language - 2 years; visual and performing Arts - 1 year; college-preparatory electives - 1 year. Examination Requirement: SAT Reasoning Test or ACT plus Writing and two different SAT II subject tests. Scholarship Requirement: GPA of 3.0 (3.4 for nonresidents) in the subject requirements taken after 9th grade, and specified standardized test scores per UC Eligibility Index. UG Transfer Admissions Requirements: Completion of 60 semester (90 quarter) units of transferable college credit with at least a 2.4 GPA. Seven of the transferable courses must include 2 courses in English composition; 1 course in mathematical concepts/quantitative reasoning and 4 courses from two of following subject areas: arts/humanities, social/behavioral sciences and physical/biological sciences. Graduate Admission Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent from an accredited undergraduate institution of acceptable standing and a demonstrated ability to pursue a program of study leading to an advanced degree. Application materials include: application form, statement of purpose, personal history statement, official transcripts, three (3) letters of recommendation, TOEFL test (for international students), and GRE scores.
