Residency Requirements

To qualify for a degree, a transfer student must successfully complete at least four regular sessions of full-time study and a minimum of 10 full courses or equivalent while registered in the Schulich School of Engineering.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Transfer applicants are considered for admission to the first year common program, or they may be eligible to be considered for direct admission to a degree major (e.g. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) in second year if they are awarded at least eight transfer credits for the U of C engineering first year technical courses. Transfer students who are eligible for consideration for direct admission to a degree major will be admitted to the departmental program based on their GPA on the most recent eight to ten university transferable technical or scientific courses. If a transferable course is repeated, only the first passing grade (C- or better) will be counted in this GPA. The GPA required for admission may be different for each degree major.

Transfer Conditions and Minimum Requirements:

(a) 6 or more single semester university level courses: Admission GPA = *2.50 or more calculated on most recent courses up to 10; Matriculation Average will not be considered.
(b) 3-5 single semester university level courses: Admission GPA = *2.50 or more AND Matriculation Average = *75% or more.
(c) 0-2 single semester university level courses: Matriculation Average = *75% or more; Admission GPA will not be considered.
(d) 2 year Engineering Diploma or Applied Technology Degree: Cumulative GPA = *3.00 or more on the diploma or applied technology degree.

*Minimum requirements do not reflect the final cut-offs which are determined in August. In recent years the final cut-offs have been significantly higher than the minimum requirements.
Apart from post-secondary courses, all transfer applicants must present matriculation (Grade 12) standing in the five specified high-school subjects including English, Mathematics, Calculus, Physics and Chemistry. Admission matriculation average, when applicable, is calculated on these five required matriculation (Grade 12) subjects.

For transfer applicants who are deficient of one or more of the required high school subjects but have completed similar courses in post-secondary school, the Faculty and/or the Admissions Office will assess whether the material of the deficient grade 12 course(s) has been covered by any completed post-secondary course(s).

Apart from matriculation standing in Grade 12 English, all applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency for the purpose of admission. Please refer to http://www.ucalgary.ca/admissions/elp.html for detail.
