Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Prospective students must file a complete application before the published application deadlines. Online application is available at https://secure.csumentor.edu/AdmissionApp/. A $55 non-refundable fee must accompany the application. Neither the application, nor the fee are transferable to a term other than applied. Application deadline for Fall 17 admission is Nov 30th, 2016. Two transcripts from high school of graduation and two from each college attended must be sent directly from the institutions involved. Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Students planning to major in Engineering should complete four years of college prep math, one year of chemistry and one year of physics. For Civil and Mechanical majors, it is also recommended that a year of mechanical drawing be included.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Application deadlines for International students are as follows: Fall admission, March 31 (same year). Verification of English proficiency (TOEFL score 61 ibt or higher), financial resources and academic performance are all important considerations. Academic records from foreign institutions, if not in English, must be accompanied by a certified English translation. Transcripts and official English Language Proficiency Exam Scores need to be submitted before the deadlines posted by admission office: http://www.calstatela.edu/admissions/deadlines.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

For applicants who neither graduated from a California high school nor are residents of California, indexes of either 3502 (SAT) or 822 (ACT) are required. Non-resident transfer students must have a 2.45 GPA or better.

Residency Requirements

Undergraduate students must complete a minimum of 30 semester units, including at least 24 upper division units, 12 units in the major, and 9 units in general education courses, in residence at Cal State L.A. for the baccalaureate. Credit earned in special sessions may be applied toward this residence requirement. However, only 24 residence units may be earned through Open University. Credit earned in extension courses or by examination may not apply toward the residence requirement.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Applicants who have completed fewer than 60 transferable semester college units (fewer than 90 quarter units) are considered lower-division transfer students. Applicants who have completed 60 or more transferable semester college units (90 or more quarter units) are considered upper-division transfer students. Applicants who complete college units during high school or through the summer immediately following high school graduation are considered first-time freshmen and must meet the CSU minimum eligibility requirements for first-time freshman admission. Transferable courses are those designated for baccalaureate credit by the college or university offering the courses and accepted as such by the campus to which the applicant seeks admission.
