General Admissions

Entrance Requirements and Recommendations

There are three requirements for admission as a first-time freshman: high school graduation, C or better in a comprehensive pattern of college prep subject requirements, and a qualifiable eligibility index. The subject requirements include a total of 15 units (1 unit equaling 1 year of study in high school). They are as follows: English 4 years; Math 3 years; History and Social Science 2 years; Biological and Physical Science with Lab 2 years; Language other than English 2 years; Visual and Performing Arts 1 year; College Preparatory Electives 1 years.

The minimum eligibility index requires a score of 2900 using the SAT or 694 using the ACT. This is computed by multiplying your GPA by 800 and adding your total score on the SAT I. Or, if the student takes the ACT, multiply the GPA by 200 and add ten times the composite ACT score. If the student is neither graduated from a California high school nor a resident of California, he/she need a minimum index of 3502 (SAT I) or 842 (ACT).

Students planning to major in Engineering should complete four years of college prep math, one year of chemistry and one year of physics. For Civil and Mechanical majors, it is also recommended that a year of mechanical drawing be included.
