Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering requires successful completion of a minimum of 129 credit hours. The program may be completed in eight semesters assuming appropriate background and full-time enrollment.

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering program requires successful completion of a minimum of 128 semester hours.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering degree program requires 127 credit hours.

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science requires 120-122 credit hours depending on area of concentration.

The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree requires 129 credit hours.

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics degree program requires 127 credit hours.

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree requires 128 credit hours.

The Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering degree program requires 127 credit hours.

Master's Degree Requirements

The Master of Science and Master in Aerospace Engineering require a minimum of 30 credit hours of graduate-level coursework. The Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering requires the completion of a thesis.

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering requires 15 credits of required core courses and fifteen (15) credits of advisor-approved electives, consisting of up to 9 credits of thesis research.

The Master of Science in Cybersecurity Engineering requires a minimum of 30 credit hours comprised of 18 credits of core courses and 12 credits of advisor-approved electives.

The Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering requires 30 credit hours of graduate course work including either a graduate project or thesis.


The Master of Science in Engineering Physics degree program provides graduate-level education and training in space science and space systems engineering. The curriculum consists of 15 credits of required coursework, with an additional 15 credits of electives and/or thesis research.

The Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering provides students with advanced study in engineering with a specialization in Electro-Mechanical Systems. Both thesis and non-thesis options are available, and each requires completion of 30 credit hours.

The Master of Science in Software Engineering requires the completion of 30 credit hours of graduate course work that includes either a capstone project or a thesis.

The Master of Science in Systems Engineering requires a total of 30 credit hours for completion and offers both thesis and non-thesis options.

The Master of Science in Unmanned and Autonomous Systems Engineering requires 30 credit hours of graduate-level course work. The program consists of fifteen credits of core courses and fifteen credits of advisor-approved electives and/or a capstone project or research thesis.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

The Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering curriculum requires a minimum of 42 credit hours beyond a Master degree, to include:
* 18 credit hours of advanced coursework (minimum)
* 24 credit hours of dissertation research (minimum)
* The successful completion of an approved plan of study during the first semester as a Ph.D. student
* The successful completion of the qualifying examinations in both mathematics and their area of concentration
* The successful completion of a written dissertation proposal and oral presentation, to the examining committee within one year of completing the qualifying examinations
*The successful completion of a program of significant original research
* The successful oral defense of the dissertation concerning the research work before the dissertation committee
All requirements for the degree must be completed within five (5) calendar years beyond the Masters degree. Exceptions will be allowed when justified.

The Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering curriculum requires a minimum of 42 credit hours beyond a Master degree, to include:
* 18 credit hours of advanced coursework (minimum)
* 24 credit hours of dissertation research (minimum)
* Define and complete a plan of study of coursework in the field
* The successful completion of the qualifying examination demonstrating mastery within mathematics and two other Mechanical Engineering topical areas
* The successful completion of a written dissertation
*The successful presentation of a dissertation research proposal
* The successful oral defense of the dissertation before the dissertation committee and an audience of peers and other interested scholars.

The Ph.D. in Engineering Physics curriculum requires 45 hours beyond a master’s degree, to include:
* 12 hours in core
* 6 hours of electives (minimum)
* 27 hours of dissertation (minimum)
* The successful completion of a two-day written qualification (comprehensive) examination prior to beginning the dissertation
* The successful presentation of a dissertation research proposal
* The successful completion of a written dissertation
* The successful oral defense of the dissertation before the dissertation committee and an audience of peers and other interested scholars. All requirements for the degree must be completed within seven calendar years from the date the student enters the program. Exceptions can be granted only by the Ph.D. in Engineering Physics Program Committee.

The Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science requires 42 hours beyond a master’s degree, to include 18 credits of coursework and 24 credits of dissertation. Additionally, the student must:
*Pass a qualifying examination to be admitted to degree candidacy.
*Pass a preliminary examination by presenting a dissertation proposal.
*Define and complete a program of original research.
*Prepare and defend a dissertation concerning the research work.
