Entrance Requirements and Recommendations

Requirements

Entrance requirements into a technical major include 4 years of English, 4 years preferred college preparatory mathematics, 2 years of social science, and 2 years of science with labs (3 years preferred), including chemistry and/or physics. ACT and/or SAT scores are strongly recommended and are reviewed in conjunction with high school records and are never the sole factor used to determine eligibility. Students for whom English is not the primary language must either attain a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL or achieve a grade of "C" or higher in a college-level English composition course.

Recommendations

Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, precalculus, calculus, physics, chemistry, and mechanical drawing/CAD are courses that individuals should take in high school, if possible.

Student Design Projects Description

Design projects are incorporated throughout the curriculum in various courses starting the freshman year. Multidisciplinary projects (AE, CE, EE, ME, SE) include aircraft, spacecraft, and avionics systems for business, commercial, military, general aviation aircraft, land vehicles, UAV's, satellites, space systems (manned & unmanned), navigation, surveillance, communication, and control interfaces applied to robotic vehicles.

Engineering College Description and Special Characteristics

The Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, and Software engineering programs at the Prescott campus of Embry-Riddle feature a unique combination of math, science and engineering fundamentals coupled with a focus on engineering applications. Students develop skills and knowledge in small classes and develop a personal relationship with highly qualified and experienced faculty. The focus of the University on aviation and aerospace creates a fertile environment for the exchange of ideas and discussions with fellow students. Cooperative educational programs are available and encouraged. Engineering students participate in the AZ-NASA Space Grant Consortium. Extensive laboratory facilities are dedicated to the undergraduate students with an emphasis in modern engineering software and tools.

Admissions/Transfers

Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Same entrance requirements as the Institution. Department Chairs make the final admissions decision and often will review students' application folders.

Students who do not meet automatic admissions requirements are evaluated on an individual basis by the department chair.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

International applicants must provide an official copy of upper secondary school academic records. Students for whom English is not the primary language must either attain a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL, achieve a grade of C or higher in a college-level English composition course, or successfully complete Embry-Riddle's Language Institute (Daytona Beach campus). An advance tuition deposit of $5,000 must also be submitted to the Director of Admissions.

Applicants must have completed 12 or more credit hours, be in good academic standing at prior institution, and have a 2.0 minimum grade-point average.
