Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

A completed application for admission would include a copy of a student's high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores for a freshman application. Freshman must present four (4) units of English, four (4) units of math (the fourth unit should be a higher level of math for which algebra II is a prerequisite), three (3) units of science (one physical science and one life or biological science and at least one lab science), two (2) units of social studies (including one unit of U.S. History) and two (2) units of the same foreign language.

Transfer applications would need to include a copy of their high school transcript and a copy of all transcripts from all institutions that a student has attended since high school.

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Individual should demonstrate mastery of core math concepts on the Math SAT and in high school math courses. Freshman applicants must have a C or better in all high school math courses, completion of Pre-Calculus (Calculus preferred), and a math course taken in the senior year of high school. The average Math SAT and weighted GPA of admitted engineering majors are 600 and 3.8, respectively.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

An Application for Undergraduate Admissions; a fee of $60; official high school transcripts; proof of English ability demonstrated by official scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), official scores on the IELTS, or U.S. High School diploma and transcripts indicating two years of attendance, if the applicant is from a non-English speaking country; SAT or ACT score; and a statement of financial responsibility. A course-by-course foreign credential evaluation of academics must also be submitted from International Education Evaluations, Inc., Educational Perspectives, or ECE.

Residency Requirements

Students must earn the last 25% of baccalaureate degree requirements at UNC Charlotte, including the last 12 semester hours of work in the major field and at least six hours of any minor field of study.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Submit a completed application for admission with a GPA of at least 2.5 and meet the same mathematics requirements as entering freshmen using either high school or college mathematics courses. Must have completed a pre-calculus equivalent (MAT 172 or 175 at North Carolina community colleges) prior to admission. All transfers will be admitted to the lower division of a department, and evaluation of transfer credits to a program by the department chair will follow the guidelines of the NC Engineering Transfer Board. Transfers from an ABET-accredited engineering program who do not have a 2.5 GPA may be admitted upon the recommendation of the major department.
