Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

All students are required to fulfill the academic progression requirements which include maintaining an engineering course GPA of at least 2.0, maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 upon completion of the freshman curriculum, passing all courses within three attempts (or two attempts in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science) including withdrawing for a grade of W, and achieving a grade of C or better in a variety of prerequisite courses.

Master's Degree Requirements

Satisfactory completion of at least 30 semester hours of graduate course work, no more than 6 of which can be earned for a research thesis. A minimum of 18 hours of graduate course work must be in a major area of engineering, and at least 6 hours must be in mathematics, science, or a different engineering area. Degree candidates must stand for a final comprehensive exam.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

At least 45 hours of formal course work beyond the baccalaureate degree and at least 18 hours of research/dissertation credits along with fulfilling a chronologically-ordered set of requirements involving the formation of an advisory committee, a plan of study, a research project, and a written and/or oral presentation and defense. A maximum of 8 calendar years from formal admission to the Ph.D. program are allowed for completion.
