Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a college, university, or technical school of acceptable standing. Applicants are evaluated by the individual departments in which they intend to register on the basis of their prior performance and professional promise, as evidenced by their academic records, letters of evaluation from individuals familiar with their capabilities, and any other pertinent data provided by the applicant. Application Fee: $75. Prospective applicants should check with individual departments. Specific admission requirements vary by department. Students normally enter the Graduate School in September. Some departments admit students for June or February entry. June or September entry: earliest deadline is December 15; February entry: earliest deadline is October 1.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Prospective applicants should check with individual departments. Some departments at MIT require international applicants to submit the results of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The MIT Committee on Graduate School Policy requires newly admitted international graduate students whose primary language of instruction was not English to take the English Evaluation Test (EET) as a means of determining the current level of their English language skills.
