Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Seattle University makes admission decisions based on a holistic review of your materials and background. Primary consideration is given to course selection and performance.
Successful candidates complete the following minimal program in high school (each unit is equivalent to one academic year of study):
English - 4 units
Mathematics (college preparatory) - 3* units
Social studies - 3 units
Laboratory science - 2** units
Foreign language - 2 units
Additional academic units from above disciplines - 2 units
Seattle University offers the distinct advantage of considering freshman applicants for direct admission to specific majors. Accordingly, there are specific additional requirements for admission to certain majors.

* Applicants to the College of Science and Engineering must complete 4 units of college preparatory mathematics for admission to any of its specific majors. (Students who have only completed three units may be considered for pre-engineering).

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

** Applicants for engineering majors must complete laboratory chemistry to be considered for admission. Physics is highly recommended.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

International applicants should submit the following:
◦Completed Common Application and Seattle University Member Supplement. Transfer students may also apply via the Seattle University Transfer Application.
◦A non-refundable application fee of $55. Undergraduate applicants are only required to pay the application fee one time. The fee is considered already paid for those updating applications for subsequent quarters, or who have taken an academic hiatus and are applying for readmission. Transfer students from Washington State, Oregon, California, or Arizona who are receiving their transfer degrees and transferring directly to Seattle University will have their application fee waived.
◦Certified, official transcripts from all secondary schools and universities attended. Official external mark sheets should be submitted as part of the evaluation process in the educational system attended. Transcripts must have the official seal or stamp from the issuing institution. Students who have completed the Ordinary and/or Advanced Levels, or the International Baccalaureate must have the results sent directly from the testing agency. Transfer students who have completed more than 45 quarter hours of transferable college credit are not required to submit secondary school transcripts.
◦Certified English language translations of all transcripts and mark sheets from all colleges and universities attended.
◦A dated Declaration of Finances signed by your sponsor, and verified by the bank of deposit indicating that the proper amount is on deposit and available for your first year of study at Seattle University.
◦Proof of English proficiency (see English proficiency policy)
Seattle University does not require the ACT or SAT of international freshman applicants. However, these scores do enhance an application, and sufficiently high critical reading and writing scores will be accepted in lieu of the TOEFL.

All applicants must satisfy the following requirements for admission to be granted:
◦Undergraduate applicants: should have the equivalent of a U.S. grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
◦Provide official transcripts from each educational institution attended.
◦Demonstrate English proficiency

The final 45 credits must be taken at Seattle University.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

For certain programs, particular prerequisite courses are required as well as minimum GPA's. GPA's no lower than 2.5 are typically considered.

Students must submit:
o Either the Seattle University Transfer Application or the Common Application for transfer admission.
o A $55 application fee. Undergraduate applicants are only required to pay the application fee one time. The fee is not required of students who will have completed an associate's degree at a Washington, Oregon, Arizona or California by the time of enrollment and who are transferring directly to Seattle U.
o Official transcripts from each college, university or professional school attended.
o Personal statement describing the ways Seattle U matches the applicant's educational goals. See application for more details.
o If English is not first/native language proof of English proficiency is required. This is required regardless of English language studies, academic history, residence in the United States or other English-speaking countries, or immigration status. See English proficiency policy.
