Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

The graduation requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering include the satisfactory completion of 128 semester hours. Engineering students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.25 in specific required courses in their major. Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering students are required to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam prior to graduation. All other Engineering majors are strongly encouraged to take the FE exam prior to graduation. The graduation requirements for Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science and Information Technology include the satisfactory completion of 120 semester hours. Computer Science students must pass a foundation exam prior to taking courses beyond basic core requirements. Students must earn a minimum GPA of 2.0 as well as earn a minimum grade of "C" in each of their program prerequisite, core, and restricted elective courses and a 2.5 GPA in their advanced core. Computer Science and Information Technology students must receive a 2.0 or better in all major required courses. All engineering and computer science students must earn a minimum of 32 hours in residence at UCF, 48 hours of upper division credit and 60 hours of senior institution credit.

Master's Degree Requirements

Thesis option Master's degree is a minimum of 30 hours of approved course work including six hours of thesis credits. All departments in Engineering offer a 30 semester hour, non-thesis option intended primarily for part-time students. An end-of-program comprehensive examination (oral or written), culminating experience, research portfolio, or research intensive course is required.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

All doctoral programs are 72 credit hours in length and require Qualifying and Candidacy Exams. Requirements of the exams vary by program. In addition, programs require a different number of dissertation credits for degree certification.
