Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

The undergraduate engineering programs cover a four calendar year period of academic course work and cooperative education, utilizing the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The Bachelor of Science degree requires a minimum of 126-131 semester hours depending on the major selected. This includes the three required semester-long cooperative work experiences. At least 30 of the last 36 semester hours must be completed in residency. A minimum final cumulative GPA of 2.25 is required.

Master's Degree Requirements

The ABET-accredited Master of Engineering degree is an integrated 5-year program. The MEng degree requires a minimum of 30-32 semester hours beyond the baccalaureate requirements. This includes 6-9 hours of individual study, design, or investigation resulting in a written thesis which must be defended orally. All majors have a non-thesis alternative plan of study. Excluding thesis credits 12 hours must be at the 600 level. A minimum final cumulative GPA of 2.75 is required. A Master of Science degree is also available and is subject to Graduate School requirements.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Students entering with a bachelor's degree must complete 72-78 semester hours; those with a master's degree must complete 48 hours. At least two years of study must be spent at the University of Louisville and at least one must be spent in full-time residency. Each Doctorate degree granting program has additional specific requirements.
