Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Freshman and transfer applicants who are not U.S. citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents must demonstrate a level of scholastic achievement that would indicate ability to succeed in an academic program at St. Mary’s University. Applicants should submit the documents listed below to show that the quality and quantity of their education is at least equivalent to the minimum admission requirements for all U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents.

• Completed Application Form
• Official Evaluated Transcript(s) (Required of all students who attend high school and/or college outside of the United States: Only evaluations from the following will be accepted: naces.org, aice-eval.org or ies.aacrao.org)
• Official Standardized Test Scores
• Essay
• Written Recommendation

International applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit official scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The following are the required minimum scores:

• Paper-based TOEFL: 550
• Internet-based TOEFL: 80
• IELTS: 6.0

Although the SAT or ACT tests are not required of international applicants, we strongly encourage you to submit results from the SAT or ACT. The results may be used for scholarship consideration.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Applicants should submit the documents listed below to form a complete transfer application for review by the admission committee.

There is no application fee for students who apply online. Students who submit a paper application before January 15 for entrance the following summer or fall receive the same benefit. After January 15, there is a $30 non-refundable application fee for those submitting a paper application. All applicants are considered for academic scholarships during the application review process.

Official college or university transcripts should be sent directly from all schools attended to St. Mary’s University. Applicants who have 30 or more transferable college semester hours and three or more hours of English composition, should submit academic transcripts showing all college work. Applicants who have less than 30 transferable hours and/or less than three hours of English composition, in addition to all college transcripts, should submit an official high school transcript and official SAT or ACT score results. (A GED may be submitted in lieu of the high school transcript.)
