Student Design Projects Description

Engineering Technology students are introduced to the engineering design process during their first year in the Engineering Innovation course. Subsequent design projects are integrated throughout the remaining curriculum for each engineering technology major, culminating in their Senior Design Project course. These design experience often originate from open-ended problem statements with real-world constraints such as cost and time. The three credit-hour Senior Design Project course is coordinated by the University of Dayton Innovation Center. This capstone engineering design course uses industry sponsored projects that are interdisciplinary and that require students to work within small design teams. These student teams are responsible for developing a formal proposal, as well as completing the design, prototype, and test phases of the project towards a final product or process. The student teams are also responsible for the design reports and presentations given to the sponsoring organization. This culminating design experience integrates their coursework with a real-world experience.
